From "Beckley U.S.A." by Harlow Warren, p. 372, vol. 2. In book: "One of Raleigh County's very earliest settlements, at the mouth of Piney Creek- before 1870. McCreery, Raleigh County, W. Va., after the C&O had laid its rails as far as Lester. The settler was James Thomas McCreery, brother John Wallace McCreery and his five beautiful daughters: Maude, Birdie, Joe, Daisy and Anna" (p. 372). On back of photograph: "J.T. McCreery my father, Birdie McCreery Baylor."
