Originally from Wheeling , Elizabeth married Rev. James Moore in 1853. Devoted educators, the couple served as administrators and teachers at the Monongalia Academy, Woodburn Seminary and the Morgantown Female Institute which were the prominent educational institutions in Morgantown during the mid-19th century. E. Moore Hall on the WVU campus was named in honor of Mrs. Moore.

Moore, who was married to James Robertson Moore, was the principal of Woodburn Female Seminary before the building and land were incorporated into the campus of West Virginia University. She later opened Morgantown Female Seminary on High Street.Elizabeth Moore Hall on the Morgantown campus of West Virginia University was named in her honor shortly before her death in 1930.
