The Thompson family played a large role in the timber industry of Tucker County during the 1800s, and later prospered in the region as farmers, business owners, and prominent members of the Canaan Valley community.The Blackwater Boom and Lumber Company (also known as the Thompson Lumber Company) was started by Albert Thompson, who brought his family to Tucker County, West Virginia in the late 1800's to take advantage of Tucker County's forests.The company was bought by Babcock Lumber Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1907. The mill closed at Davis in 1924.
